amy is a university student in the process of completing her masters degree and was on her way to becoming a doctor when she was diagnosed with nose and throat cancer. she has always been a courageous fighter and an inspiration to those around her. however, courage is certainly not equivalent to the absence of fear. i imagine that having cancer would be quite terrifying.
despite the terror, amy has not given up. throughout the years in which i have known amy, she has never doubted Gods sovereignty. even as He leads her through an uncertain and difficult time in her young life, she still holds on to the hope we have in Jesus.
however, this hope is not the same kind of hope like when we wish for longer lives and better health. no. this hope is different. it is the promise of a purposeful life; that the trials we endure are not done in vain but will be for a cause greater than ourselves.
amy is currently battling cancer in taiwan and before she left, this painting was done in honour of the life already lived and the journey she is about to take. it is meant to stand as an encouragement and reminder that she is not only loved by her friends at home, but that as long as she has Jesus, she will have hope and she will always have Jesus.

[update: 02.09.09]
since that time, amy recovered from nose and throat cancer long enough to resume her medical studies. however, she has since encountered a new cancerous tumor manifested in her lung and has had to postpone her studies again. she is currently undergoing chemo sessions and has 2 more cycles left. fortunately, the chemo is proving effective and has shrunk the tumor by 75%. through it all, she is still as strong and optimistic as ever, with eyes set on Christ and an inspiration to everyone around her.
that's so sweet of you! i would love to buy a print from you to help your friend. i hope you'll get it as a print on here too.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.

We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
